Bear Stearns + The Long Tail + Skype

I just listened to a conference call that was held yesterday by Analyst Spencer Wang on The Long Tail:Why Aggregation & Context and Not (Necessarily) Content are King in Entertainment It was shorter than expected (it only lasted about 15 minutes) because no questions were posed. As you might have thought the discussion is based on the theory posed by Chris Anderson in his book The Long Tail: Why the Future of Business Is Selling Less of More
The case study that was discussed was the Evolution of TV as being an example of the long tail and the impact of increased choice; as the # of tv channels increased the Big 3 (NBC,CBS, ABC) had a decrease in # viewers and the cable channels had an increase. Long story short as we inch closer to infinite choice of channels with the help of video hosting sites and the implementation of broadband into the homes we will be stuck with overwhelming confusion. Therefore it is imperative that the content be packaged. Who are the expected viable aggregators to emerge you may ask? My bet is on GooTube.

The aggregation model applies to all content, video, news, blogs.
I was pointed to this conference call by an aggregator, the beauty that is Techmeme
There is a HUGE need for a middle man to clean up the noise. (and not just for the geeks)
Thats all I have to say about that-for now.

In other news I used Skype 3.0 BETA.
and it rocked!!! I just clicked the # for the teleconference as you can see in the screenshot

Solid product. Not to mention the call was free!! (promotion expires at the end of the year)
